Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about international bra sizing.
Different countries developed their sizing systems independently. The US and UK both use inches for band size, but their cup naming diverges past DD. European (EU/German), French, Italian, and Japanese systems use centimeters for band size. The underlying measurements are the same; only the labels differ. That is why a US 34C and a UK 34C are the same, but both equal a European 75C.
For smaller cup sizes (AA through D), yes. US and UK sizes are identical up to that point. They diverge at DD and above. A US DDD is the same volume as a UK E, for example. If you wear a US 34C, your UK size is also 34C. If you wear a US 34DDD, your UK equivalent is 34E.
EU band sizes are based on the underbust measurement in centimeters. US and UK bands use a different formula that results in a larger number. As a rough guide: US 32 = EU 70, US 34 = EU 75, US 36 = EU 80. The converter handles all the math for you automatically, including the different scales used by France, Italy, and Japan.
No. While both use centimeters, the French, Belgian, and Spanish system adds 15 to the EU/German band number. So EU 70 = French 85, EU 75 = French 90, and so on. Italy uses the same band numbering as France. Cup letter labels are the same between these two systems, so only the band number changes.
Sister sizes are bra sizes that hold the same cup volume with a different band and cup label combination. For example, 34C, 36B, and 32D all contain the same breast volume. If your converted size is not available in a specific brand, trying the sister size often works well. Go up a band size and down one cup letter, or down a band and up one cup, to stay in the same volume range. The Fit Guide has a sister sizing table and additional fit tips.
Conversions give you a reliable starting point, but individual brands vary in how they cut and grade their bras. A French 90C from one label may fit slightly differently from another. Always try on bras when possible, or check the brand's own size guide. Use your converted size as the starting point and adjust one size up or down if the fit is off. For measuring tips and fit guidance, see the Fit Guide.
